Orville Dean Ebke

January 22, 1939 — September 3, 2017

Orville Dean Ebke was born January 22, 1939 to Carl F. and Martha L. (Drees) Ebke in DeWitt, Nebraska. He was Baptized in the Christian Faith on February 5 th , 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Wilber (DeWitt area) and confirmed April 6 th , 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Jansen Nebraska. Orville was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Jansen at the time of his death on September 3, 2017, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.

Orville graduated from Diller High School in 1956 and married Phyllis J. Brunow on August 21, 1960 at the American Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Six children were born to this union, Lori, Denise, Dennis, Kari, Susan, and Chad.

Orville was a farmer and also worked at Canning Trucking before retiring. After retirement he also held other part time jobs in Fairbury, including delivering flowers for Sims Florist for many years, and continued going down to Sims for coffee with the girls until entering the Heritage of Fairbury. He enjoyed the many years of Card Club with his friends, vacations with his children and grandchildren, traveling, family, friends, his large garden that was like his small farm, and enjoyed watching football and baseball. He was a very good artist and was always drawing or doodling something. He was a quiet man, but everyone enjoyed his quick wit and great one-liners, and his readily easy smile.

Orville is preceded in death by his parents Carl F. and Martha L. (Drees) Ebke , his wife Phyllis, infant son Dennis D. Ebke, and brother Donald Ebke.  He is survived by children Lori L. Adams and husband Tom of Fairbury, NE; Denise A. Scott, and husband Pat of Beatrice, NE; Kari J. McCarty and husband Jim of Portsmouth, VA; Susan L. Grace and husband Patrick of Leavenworth, KS; and Chad Ebke of Palmyra, NE; grandchildren Tyson Adams and Emily Jensen, Shyanne Adams; Candace Barton and Billy Barnes, Zachary Scott; Timothy Holle; Dakota (Ashley) Holle, Samantha (Cordell) Depew, Benjamin and Aiden Grace, and Haylee Ebke; great-grandchildren Justyce and Harley Holle and Kuri Baxter;  brother Loren Ebke and wife Barb, and brother-in-law Phillip D. Brunow and wife Yvonne, all of Fairbury, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be Friday September 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery with  Memorials will going to the Family’s Choice.   The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6 - 8 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home.
