Patrick Edward Hughes

Patrick “Pat” Hughes of Fairbury, Nebraska died on August 24, 2022, at Bryan Health East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 63.
Pat was born on February 26, 1959, in Brighton, Colorado to Wendell and Mary (Jackson) Hughes. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1977.
Pat married Kim Stewart in September of 1989 and had one daughter, Jenna. They later divorced but remained friends. In July of 2001, Pat married Brandi Garcia and they had two sons, Jerod and Jason, then later divorced but remained friends.
Pat had various jobs through the years but found his calling in carpentry. He started his own construction company, building additions and doing remodeling jobs. In September of 1994, he started working at Scherbarth’s (ACE Hardware). He was very dedicated to his job, and helped many people with their projects, even drawing plans for new builds and home additions, and creating the material lists for those jobs. Many people have said of Pat that he was so helpful and had “a wealth of knowledge” and that they looked for him when they had questions.
He had a love for music, singing in the high school choir and being a part of a barbershop quartet. He taught himself to play the guitar and never learned to read music. If he was brave enough, perhaps with a little bit of “liquid courage”, he would sing in front of a few people. Later in life, he took a liking to cars and was so proud of his 50th Anniversary Corvette.
Pat was kind and selfless and really enjoyed helping people. He could pick up on even the quietest need a person had, and do what he could to meet that need. He was soft-spoken and always had a calm air about him, often giving reassurance to those that he loved that everything was going to be okay. At the same time, he was a private person, enjoying his time off from work spent at home working on his house or other projects. He loved spending time with his children and three grandchildren and was extremely proud of all of them.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wendell and Mary Hughes, and brother Timothy Hughes.
He is survived by his siblings, Wendy Jacobson, Thomas Hughes, Jack Hughes of Georgia, and Brian Wilson of Lincoln; Daughter Jenna (Clayton) French of Freeport, Florida, her mother Kim (Randy) Johnson of Fairbury; Sons Jerod (Yazmin Alonzo) Hughes of Fairbury and Jason Hughes of Fairbury, their mother Brandy (James) Dostert of Fairbury; Grandchildren Shainley and Brody French of Freeport, Florida, and Kaleb Alonzo-Hughes of Fairbury.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the family's choice.
