Paul Julius Prellwitz was 101 years old when he passed away on July 5, 2021, at Gardenside Nursing Home. He was born to Julius and Mary (Nutsch) Prellwitz on April 27, 1920, on a farm 7 miles east of Mahaska, KS in the same house his mother was born. He was the second of ten children. He was baptized in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church north of Morrowville, KS. He attended and graduated form District 129 Stephens rural grade school and graduated from Morrowville High School in 1939.
He started helping his father farm with horses at age 9. Some of the jobs he had after graduation were farming for relatives in Utah, herding cattle, combine crew for wheat harvest, working for the Coleman Lamp and Stove Company and moving houses and buildings. He farmed for many years until his retirement.
He served on church committees, Parish Council and mowed the church cemetery for several years, along with singing in the church choir for over 30 years. He was treasurer for Rural Fire District #7 at Mahaska for 23 years and the Washington County Fire Association for 21 years.
He enjoyed bus trips traveling to many locations in the United States. He also enjoyed his time at Cedarwood Assisted Living among his friends and staff there.
Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings, and in-laws; sister Josephine (Al) Linenberger, his brothers Frederick (Evelyn), William (Orle), Leonard (Rozella), brother-in-laws, Dean Hays and Donald Gregory.
Survivors include his brother, LeRoy (Betty) of Fairbury and sisters Mary Lucille Hays of Hesperia, CA, Marjorie Gregory of Reynolds, Dorothy (Bob) Brown of Topeka, KS, and Patricia Bennett of Surprise, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary service will be held at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury on Thursday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 9 at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Internment at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Morrowville, KS.
Memorials in Paul's honor will be designated to the family's choice in care of Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, PO Box 15, Fairbury, NE 68352.
