Philip Gale Heidemann was born on September 29, 1948, at Forest City, Iowa. He was the fifth of six children born to Rev. Leonard and Violet (Chirnside) Heidemann. He was welcomed into the family of God through Holy Baptism at St. John Lutheran Church in Garner, Iowa on October 24, 1948. He attended grade school at Hinton, Iowa. On May 5, 1963, he was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church at Seward by his father, Rev. Leonard Heidemann. His confirmation verse was John 6:47, “I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.” He graduated from Concordia High School in Seward, Nebraska in 1967, from Concordia Lutheran Junior College, Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1969 and from Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1971. Following college, he moved to the Daykin area and began farming with his brother, Gene.
Phil was united in marriage to Mary Endorf on October 4, 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, NE. To this union God brought into the world two daughters, Holly and Beth. They established their home on a farm 3 ½ miles east of Daykin, where he farmed until his retirement in 2022. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Daykin, serving in various offices. He loved playing games, doing puzzles and was an avid reader.
Phil was called to his heavenly home on February 18, 2022. Survivors include his wife, Mary, daughters, Holly Dorathy of Omaha and Beth (Ryan) Sonderup of Fullerton, grandchildren, Mara, Brenna, Weston, and Owen Dorathy, and Lora and Luke Sonderup. Sisters, Barbara McMahon of Huntsville, Alabama and Virginia Hughes of Seward, brothers, Gene Heidemann of Hastings, Mark (Teri) Heidemann of Seward and sister-in-law, Dorothy Heidemann Nelson of Lincoln. Brother-in-law, David (Colleen) Endorf of Daykin and sister-in-law, Lynn (Bruce) McKeag of Lincoln. Many nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents, parents-in-law, Ernest G. and Lora (Katz) Endorf, brother, Keith Heidemann, brothers-in-law, TR Hughes and Don McMahon, and sister-in-law, Kathy Heidemann.
Visitation will be held with the family on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, Nebraska from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 5 miles east of Daykin, Nebraska. Private family inurnment at 10 am in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Daykin, Nebraska.
Memorials will be designated to Concordia University, Seward, to the Music Building Fund.
