Phyllis Marie Rohlfing

December 10, 1929 — March 15, 2016

Phyllis M. Rohlfing, age 86 of Fairbury, NE passed away March 15, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln. She was born December 10, 1929 at Fairbury, NE to Lewis & Elsie (Purdy) Hollaway.

She graduated from Fairbury High School in May 1947. After High School, she worked at the City Investment Company as a secretary.

Phyllis married Herman Rohlfing, Jr. on May 11, 1951.  To this union there were four children Rex Alan, Scott Herman (who died in infancy), Gregory Lee and Amy Marie.

Phyllis was a part of Jefferson County Democratic Party.  She was a Committee member on the Women for Gibson Precinct and served as secretary for the party.  She was a member of the State Democratic Central Committee.  She was very proud of this title and has always paid close attention to politics. She was acting Post Master of the Plymouth Post Office July 1963.

Phyllis was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church on November 2, 1951.

She was very active on the family farm; rounding up cows and calves, hauling silage in bushel baskets to feed the feedlot heifers and steers each day.  She cooked numerous dinners and prepared multiple lunches for farm hands and laborers at the house, as well as keeping up the house.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Amy and her husband Steve of Lansing, KS, and 2 grandchildren Megan and Colin Dike both of Lansing, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Elsie Hollaway, husband Herman Rohlfing, Jr., children Scott Herman, Rex Alan and Gregory Lee and sister Helen Owens.

Services will be at 1:00 pm Monday March 21, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church – Plymouth, NE. The family will greet friends Sunday March 20 th from 6 to 8 pm at the Funeral Home in Fairbury. Memorials to the Family’s Choice. Burial at Peace Lutheran Cemetery – Plymouth, NE. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
