On March 28, 2012, Heaven was blessed with an amazing, beautiful angel, Raini Ann Mitchell. Raini was born August 3, 1990 in Hastings, Nebraska to Michelle Mitchell and Kevin Short.
Raini attended kindergarten and first grade in Salina, Kansas and then relocated with her mom to Lincoln, Nebraska. Raini then attended Hartley Elementary, Culler Middle School and she graduated in 2008 from Norris High School in Firth, Nebraska.
Raini was wonderfully intelligent, caring, talented, sweet, and funny. She loved her family and friends without limit and she, in turn, was loved by all who knew her. Raini was so much fun to be around – her smile and laugh were truly contagious!
At Norris High School, Raini was on the basketball, volleyball and track teams. She was also a member of the High Velocity Dance Team with Capital City Cloggers. Raini also enjoyed many, many other activities such as camping, fishing with her Uncle Todd, travelling, going to concerts and just hanging out with her friends and family. Raini also was an avid movie fan and could quote practically every line of her favorite movies. There is no doubt that wherever Raini went, fun followed.
Raini loved music; her I-Pod and cell phone were filled with everything from hip-hop to country to rock. Her favorite artists ranged from Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts to JARule and Kid Rock. Raini was also a talented musician, playing violin and clarinet for several years in elementary and middle schools.
At the time of her death, Raini lived in Endicott, Nebraska with her fiancé, McKinley (Mack) Rempel, who accompanied her to Heaven. She was a caring, compassionate certified nursing assistant at Blue Valley Care Home in Hebron, Nebraska. In addition to working full time, Raini was also a full-time student at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, working on completing her general education requirements to transfer to UNL for a forensic science degree. Her goal was to become a crime scene investigator. Even though Raini kept busy with work and school, she always made time for friends, family, and fun.
Left to cherish Raini’s memory are her mother and sister, Michelle and Lily, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Her beloved grandparents, Michael (Mike) and Carla Mitchell of Salina, Kansas; her buddy and cousin, Andrew Mitchell of Grand Island, Nebraska; her best friend forever, Jenny Inns of Wamego, Kansas; her camping, fishing and traveling buddies, Uncle Todd and Aunt Tara Mitchell of Grand Island, Nebraska; and her “step-dad” Bryce Muehlhausen of Lincoln; other loved ones, Tom and Cathy Fick and family, Palmyra; the Morgan family, Waverly; the Muehlhausen family; and many, many family and friends.
Raini will also be remembered by her father and his wife, Kevin and Kim Short of LaVista; Mary Alice Short of Doniphan; Uncles Mike, Monte and Dewayne Short and families; and Aunt Carla Robertson of Grand Island.
