Raymond Eugene “Gene” Herl of Fairbury, formerly of Marysville, Kansas, was born on July 10, 1930 at Hays, Kansas the son of Henry Antone and Ellen Margaret Pohlman Herl. Gene died on July 3, 2008 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 23 days.
On April 25, 1970, Gene was united in marriage to Joyce Huston Gerht at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church at Marysville. Gene joined the United Methodist Church in Fairbury on Palm Sunday of 1986 along with his wife Joyce and mother-in-law Emma Huston.
Gene worked at Grosshans & Peterson at Marysville for 27 years. He retired on July 10, 1992 after working 10 years for the Fairbury Wal-Mart.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of Fairbury, daughter Kathy Frick of Fairbury, granddaughter Jennifer Frisch and husband Eric of Ohio, grandson Jason Frick of North Carolina, great-grandchildren Jaclyn Frisch, Bradley Frisch, Lance Schell all of Ohio, J.J. Frick, Samantha Frick both of South Dakota, sister Flora Russell of Indigo, California, sister-in-law Marlene Huston of Gering, Nebraska, many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sister Naydene Orr and nephew Alan Orr.
Services will be on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating.
