Richard D. Dux

June 28, 1930 — April 30, 2017

Richard Dale Dux, 86, passed away Sunday, April 30th at his home in Gladstone, NE. Richard was born on June 28th, 1930 to Arthur & Elsie Theye Dux on a farm near Gladstone, NE. He was baptized on 8/3/30 at Zion United Church of Christ and confirmed 5/28/1944. Richard graduated in May of 1948 from Fairbury High School.

In 1951, Richard enlisted in the Army Reserves. He remained active until 1963 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargeant 1st Class.

Feb. 8, 1953 Richard wed his bride Cleo Katherine Hummel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Daykin, NE. The couple was blessed with two children, Alan and Bruce.

In the early years Richard made a living by Trucking Grain & Cattle. He built a Boom Sprayer from the drawings he created, to the actual construction to the finished product. Something he was very proud of. He custom sprayed for many people. He also had a corn sheller and would shell corn. Later he ran the Gladstone Grain Elevator in Gladstone.

Richard became a DeKalb seed dealer. He did that for many years. He also took on the role of Water Operator for Little Blue NRD. He enjoyed that job for 30 years before retiring. He volunteered with the Fairbury Rural Fair Dept. for 25 years.

Richard's greatest passion lied with his farming; going out on the tractor, swathing and baling, and especially combining. He never did officially retire. In the later years, even though he couldn’t get in the tractor, drive the combine or feed the cows and horses, he still liked to hop in “the donkey” and check on how things were going. A man of few words but you always knew where you stood.
Richard will be remembered as a good husband, loving father, grandfather & great-grandfather. A man that was soft spoken, spoke few words, but had a big heart. Always willing to help anybody out. He will be missed.

Richard is survived by his wife Cleo, sons Alan and his wife Diane of Fairbury, NE, Bruce and his wife Julie of Gladstone, NE, 5 grandchildren, Tiffany Foxhoven and husband Andrew, Nolan Dux and wife LaTisha, Jared Dux, Danyel Bartels and husband Jordan, Brittany Dux and special friend Jordan, 5 great-grandchildren Dylan, Allison & Drew Foxhoven, Jayce Williams Dux & Bennett Bartels, plus many more family and friends.
In addition to his parents Arthur & Elsie Dux, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Louis and Raymond and 1 sister Velma Zuelsdorf.
