Richard Leroy English

Richard English passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. He was 84 years old.

Richard was born to Charles and Eva (Schrock) English on May 27, 1941. He lived in Fairbury, Nebraska all of his life. Four days after graduating from Fairbury High School he started his railroad career with the Rock Island Railroad. He retired from the railroad after working 42 years.

He married Linda (Lemmon) English, December 29, 1974. To this union came Quint and Erin. He was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Fairbury. Richard served as a deacon, trustee, and an elder.

Richard was an avid Nebraska football fan. He purchased his first season tickets in 1965, and held those same tickets to the present time. He grew up listening to baseball as a kid on the radio and for his entire life, he found tremendous joy in watching baseball and “talking baseball” with other fans. But most of all, he loved and adored his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife Linda of 51 years, his son Quint (Alison) English of Elkhorn, daughter Erin (Rick) Dubas of Grand Island, and grandchildren GraceLynn Dubas, and Charlie English. He is also survived by his sisters Cheryl Roode, Cindi (Tom) Bruggeman; brother Jerry (Cathie) English; sisters-in-laws: Donna (Dan) Walenta, Ardyth Orwen, Connie Priefert, Susan Lemmon, Evelyn (John) Dalao, Tamara Bulin, Carolyn English, Judy English; brother-in-law Bob Kapke, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Orval and Beulah Lemmon; brothers Dale and Steve; in-laws-Joyce (Lawrence) Nutz, Madeline Kapke, Tim Lemmon, Vernon Eden, Mike Orwen, and Dick Priefert.

A celebration of life service will be held in Fairbury at the First Christian Church, Monday January 12, 2026 at 11 A.M. Memorials to First Christian Church of Fairbury.
