Robert "Bob" C. Brockmeyer passed away on May 5, 2021 at the age of 90, in Fairbury, Nebraska. He passed peacefully into the arms of his heavenly father.
Bob was the son of Carl and Hilda (Fellman) Brockmeyer, born on November 12, 1930. Bob attended Fairbury High School. Bob, along with his brother Don, served in the U.S. Navy together. Bob served from 1951 - 1955. After his time in the service, Bob returned home to Fairbury, where he married the love of his life, Janice Rae Erickson in 1957. Earlier this year, they celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together, Bob and Jan welcomed two children, Lori Lynn in 1962, and Robert Carl in 1965. Bob and Jan were also blessed with 4 grandchildren. His grandchildren adored him as "Papa Bob" or "Pie".
Bob will be remembered for his kind and loving heart. His children remember him as a caring and loving father, and his grandchildren remember him as a gentle and supportive grandfather. He was soft spoken, but was always there when you needed a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. He was known for his work ethic as well as his generosity, and he had a great knack for fixing things. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, sitting on the porch and watching the birds, and getting together with "The Friends the Fifties". Bob was a valued friend, a beloved family member, and his presence will be deeply missed by all.
Bob worked at Store Kraft in Beatrice, after returning from the service. In Fairbury, Bob worked at Beasley's Automotive for 23 years and Fairbury Pipe and Supply for 8 years before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1986. He managed Senior Housing Facilities for 29 years in Lincoln before moving back home to Fairbury in 2019. Bob was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairbury for 63 years and an Elder Emeritus at the time of his passing. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jan; his daughter Lori (Ron) Martin of Fort Wayne, Indiana and his son Robert (Lori) of Daykin; his four grandchildren, Eireson (Adam), Jaci, James, and Andrew; his two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Emelia; step grandchildren Katie, Kyle (Becky), and Kelli (Andrew) and two step great-grandchildren Grace and Addisyn; his brother, Don (Lois); his sister Carol Barber; and several family members and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Maxine Rogge and Vernice Stackig and two brother-in-laws Bud Stackig and Dan Barber, and nephew Jeff Brockmeyer.
A celebration of life gathering will take place on Saturday, June 5th at 1:00 p.m. at The First Christian Church in Fairbury, Family will be greeting friends at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening.
