Robert Clinton Hurst, 90 of Fairbury passed away Saturday Oct. 3, 2020. He was born to Floyd Robert and Esther Staley Hurst on July 5, 1930. He was a little fire cracker coming out into the world after his mom was hit in the stomach with a bottle rocket, making her go into labor on the 4 th of July. To friends and family he was known as 'Blackie'. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker of all types. He loved watching the Indy 500 every year, camping, vacations, playing cards, and gambling but his true love was fishing. In fact on his wedding night he went fishing. Mom was very mad at him. The best thing he ever did was host with mom the Jerry Lewis Telethon at our home for many years.
Robert served in the Army 2 times and was a lifetime member to the VFW. He also worked for the Rock Island Railroad, for tree cutting service, he was TV repairman, and retired with the Nebraska State Roads Dept after 25yrs. After his retirement he opened a bait shop, helping out at Crystal Springs for a number of years and of course gardening. One of his earlier enjoyments was being a pee wee coach for his sons baseball teams. He was proud of his sons playing the sports he loved.
Robert married his 1st wife to that union 2 children were born
In 1957 he married Wanda Marie Black and to this union 5 children were born.
Preceding him in death was his father and mother, his 1st son of only a few hours old Robert Jr., 2nd son Floyd Robert, grandson Anthony, wife Wanda and his beloved sister Norma.
Survivors are daughters Marsha Ann Coronado, of Raton, NM, Deborah Hartman of Orlando, FL, Gail Rempel of Fairbury, step daughter Jowan (Tom) Remmenga of Fairbury, sons Richard Hurst and special friend Deb Roberts of Lincoln, Darin Hurst of Russell, KS, very good friend ''his sweetie'' Kandi Swartz of Fairbury, 1 cousin Mary Jo Noble of Bethany, OK, 2 nephews, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren .
Services will be Friday, October 9, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Chapel in Fairbury. The Family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 - 7 at the Funeral Home. Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
