Robert Michael Taylor Vculek was born in Fairbury, NE to Max and Doris (Lallak) Taylor on December 29, 1948. He passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022, at the Smith Center Rehab Nursing Home. Robert lived in Idaho for a short time before he and his family moved back to Fairbury, where he lived most of his life. He attended Fairbury Schools until the ninth grade and then started in the workforce. He was a cross-country truck driver for most of his life. He joined the Army, and there he fought in the Vietnam War from February 23, 1968, to February 22, 1974. He was a Sergeant, and he received several medals, including the National Defense Medal, the Service Star Medal, the Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. Robert married Paula Rojas on May 17, 1969. Three daughters were born to this union, Patty, Jeanne, and Shelly. Then, on June 4, 1976 he married Brenda Kujath, and to this union Brian and Misty joined the families. Then he married Diane Griffin May 20, 1997, and Robert welcomed her daughter Stephanie. He was a member of Athol’s St. John’s Lutheran Church in Athol, KS. Robert enjoyed woodworking and fishing and always had music on and a dog by his side. Besides his loving children, he leaves his brothers Frank and Anthony; sisters Carolyn, Wanda, and Roxie; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Earl, a grandson Jordan Alexander Ryans and his wife Diane.
Services will be Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Chapel in Fairbury. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 at the funeral home. Memorials will go to St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, KS. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
