Roger LeRoy Barnts
, of Diller, was born on April 20, 1949 in Endicott to LeRoy and Larie Barnts. He passed away on December 28, 2022 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury at the age of 73.
He is survived by wife Patricia, daughter, Jennifer Lewis and husband Wade of Fairbury; son, Robbey Barnts and wife Shawna of Diller; sisters, Sharon Briggs and husband Benny of Glendive MT; Judy Troxel and husband Gene of Steele City; Joyce Barnts of Diller; Jeanne (Barnts) Novotny and significant other Dave Buser of Diller; brother, Rick Barnts and significant other Carole of Steele City; grandchildren, John, Michael, Kendra, Kyleigh, Kelsey and Nick; two great grandchildren, sister-in-law Linda McMurphy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Preceded in death by father LeRoy Barnts and mother Larie (Belding) Barnts, infant brother Randy.
Roger attended Diller Schools and graduated in 1968. He was drafted in 1969 into the Army and trained in Fort Lewis, WA., Fort Sill, OK., and was stationed in Germany for 18 months in the Pershing missile division.
He was united in marriage to Patricia McMurphy in 1972. Roger lived most of his life in rural Diller. He worked as a mechanic with his father and brother at Roy’s Repair in Diller, American Tool for many years until retirement. He enjoyed his animals on the farm, gardening, hunting, fishing and going to the casino with his wife as well spending time with his grandkids.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. No viewing. The Fairbury V.F.W. Honor Guard will present military rights. Cremation has taken place. Interment at a later date. Memorials to family’s choice.
Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Keuten, Trent Spilker, Shawn Lottman, grandsons, John, Michael and Nick.
Friends and family are welcome to come to a luncheon following services at the Diller Community Building.
