Ronald L. Bear

August 10, 1947 — July 12, 2022

Ronald L. Bear was born on August 10, 1947, to Francis Bear and Lila (Buchmeier) Bear.  He died at Gardenside in Fairbury on July 12, 2022, at the age of 74.  Ron’s life was spent in Fairbury attending Park grade school and finishing his education graduating high school in 1965.  He served in the Navy from 1966 until 1970.  He served in Vietnam from March 1968 until March 1970.  During his military time, he had special training in radio technology.  After high school he briefly worked for the city of Fairbury.  After military service he was employed by the Rock Island Railroad until its closure.  His final employment was at Eagle/Pitcher, a fertilizer plant.  He manufactured liquid fertilizer.  He retired from then called the Agrium fertilizer plant.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors in his earlier years with hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed watching sports, especially Cubs baseball and Husker Football. His interest in gardening came from his parents.

Ron is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sons Ronald, Jr. of Beatrice, and Roger of Fairbury; and 2 grandchildren Brooklen and Hayden of Fairbury.  Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and Richard.

Military service will be July 25, 2022, at 10:30 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral home in Fairbury.  Memorial funds will go to Gardenside for their outdoor gardens.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
