Ronald Alan Wiegert, 68, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his home in Fairbury, NE. He was born March 2, 1950 in Fairbury to Christoph and Viola (Meyer) Wiegert. He was baptized March 19, 1950 by Rev. A.L. Kohtz and confirmed by Rev. D.G. Dannenberg in 1964 both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Daykin, NE.
He attended country school District #24 Northwest of Fairbury thru 8th grade, graduated from Fairbury High School in 1968 and Fairbury Jr. College in 1970. He proudly served in the local unit of the National Guard.
He was united in marriage to Rosanna Rogers on June 30, 1973 at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury, by Rev. Herbert W. Jackman. They lived their first five years of marriage in Beatrice, NE before returning to the farm Ron had grown up on. He loved farming the land as did his father and grandfather before him.
They moved into Fairbury in 2008 when his constant battle with Parkinson’s would no longer allow him to farm.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, daughter Amy (Robert) Bray of Fairbury; son Brian (Sara) Wiegert of Springfield, WV; two grandchildren, Tyler Bray of Lincoln, and Rosalyn Bray of Fairbury; sister, Betty (Mike) Cacak of Lincoln; brother, Dale Wiegert of Grand Island; mother-in-law, Marvene Rogers; sister-in-laws, Mary Wiegert and Arla (Charles) Fryer; brother –in-law, Glen (Shirley) Rogers all of Fairbury; Numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harold Wiegert and father-in-law Wayne Rogers.
Family will be greeting friends and family from 2-4 pm at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home, 2414 H Street in Fairbury on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to TAF-Cares (The Assistance Fund-Cares) and Grace Lutheran Church, Fairbury.
Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1102 G Street, Fairbury, NE; on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Glenn Meyer officiating and burial at the Fairbury Cemetery. Ron’s nephews will honor him by serving as pall bearers. Justin Cacak, Derek Diller, Jonathan Fryer, Mark Rathe, Jason Renker, Brett Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Tim Vogt and Travis Wiegert.
