Ronnie “Ron” Jay Ramsey was born January 27, 1947, to Twila Mae Templin and Kenneth Lee (Pace Davis) Ramsey in Fairbury, Nebraska. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1965. (He would joke that they let him graduate even though they kicked him out of kindergarten, due to the Hebron tornado in May 1953.) He graduated from Fairbury Jr. College in 1967, with a degree in Business. Ron attended UNL and was 3 hours short of graduating with a BA in Business. He married Sharon Marie Vyhnalek April 14, 1973, in Fairbury. Their children are Melissa and Darcy.
Ron played trumpet in dance band during high school and after graduating from high school. He drove truck for Canning Truck Service for 27 years. After quitting trucking, he sold Franklin Life Insurance and worked at Fairbury Lumber (Tru-Value). He later drove a Fairbury School bus for several years. He also worked at Mead Lumber in Beatrice. In October 2020, retired from Maintenance Supervisor for the ’23 Apartments in Fairbury.
Ron was a member of Believe Assembly of God in Jansen. He was a servant to his God and his community. He was always active in his church, serving on several boards and committees over the years. Ron and Sharon were Youth Group Leaders at their church for many years. He served on REACT Radio, going out chasing storms, Fairbury Planning Commission, and was active with Jefferson County Relay for Life for many years. Ron was grounds keeper for Jefferson County Fairgrounds for several years.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participating in their events, working with his hands, and fixing things. He collected knives, miniature animals and he and Sharon enjoyed looking for the ‘great bargain’ at garage sales.
Ron is survived by wife, Sharon, daughter, Melissa & husband Ben of Jansen, son, Darcy & wife Donna of Lincoln. Grandchildren Emma and Samuel Ramsey and Reid Novotny.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth L. and Twila M. Ramsey and grandparents Manford & Verda Templin and Russell and Edna Ramsey.
