Sam Seachord, age 94, of Fairbury, NE, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. Funeral Services for Sam will be Friday, September 22, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the Endicott United Methodist Church with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the family’s choice.
James Samual Seachord was born August 29, 1912 in Fairbury to Earl and Mary Ann (Ridenour) Seachord. He attended school in Fairbury and on November 17, 1930 he married Emma Kinzie. Sam was employed at various jobs but spent 40 years working for the City of Fairbury, 38 of those years were spent in the light plant, before retiring in 1978. After retirement he worked with Green Thumb and the Park Department.
Sam enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and football (especially those games that his children and grandchildren were involved in). Sam also proudly served as a volunteer fireman for 60 years.
Sam is survived by two sons; James “Pat” and wife Glenna “Patty” Seachord of Jupiter, FL, and Sam Jr. and wife Velda Seachord of North Platte, NE; one daughter, Beulah “Boots” and husband Max Hanshaw of Endicott, NE; one sister, Alice and husband Bob Mary of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
