Sheila Ann Harms, 70, formerly of Fairbury, passed away at Heritage Nursing Home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from acute myeloid leukemia. Born December 28, 1950 to Wilbur and Bernice (Schenk) Harms in Fairbury, was baptized January 14, 1951 and confirmed in 1965 at the Trinity Lutheran Church by Gladstone, Nebraska. She was a member there until it closed in 1965 and then became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Sheila also attended Christ Lutheran Church while living in Lincoln and joined the First Thursday bible study.
Sheila attended grade school in Reynolds, Nebraska and graduated in 1968 from Fairbury High School. Then she attended Fairbury Junior College and Kearney State College. She lived in Lincoln working for Centel and then the State of Nebraska Health and Human Services until she retired. She liked to travel, go to wineries and bird watch. Sheila donated her time when blind children visited the Lincoln Children's Zoo.
She is survived by her brother Mike Harms of Fairbury, sister Mary Harms of Lincoln and nine cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janette and grandparents.
Services will be Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Memorials have been established to Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
