Sheri E. (Oaks) Torrey, 51, was born in Crete, Nebraska on January 8,1970 and passed away suddenly at her apartment in Fairbury on September 29,2021.
After Sheri graduated from high school, she went on to be a maid at the Senate Inn Motel in Lincoln, Nebraska, where her parents, Leonard and Rosalie, had mail route contracts, and while staying over at motel she would do maid work. She worked at Capri motel in Fairbury, Nebraska. She then went into selling antiques at her store “Sheri’s Antique Mall” in Fairbury, with her Dad. She was a dispatcher/jail matron for Jefferson County Law Enforcement center for around 10 years. Sheri’s passion was being a Special Olympics volunteer, while her sister Laurie was an athlete. She later married Timothy Torrey, a retired minister and took care of him before he went to a nursing home. Sheri helped in other jobs that she took under her wing, to help those that she cared for so passionately.
She cherished her prayer time with God and watching Sonlife Broadcasting Network on tv. Her favorite town was Reynolds, NE where she grew up. She was a regular customer at Alice’s store - that was her go to place for the best meals around. Sheri loved to shower her family with love through giving gifts for special birthdays and holidays. Sheri was a devoted Jeff Gordon fan - her favorite driver – and a family tradition. She was a bowler for years and score keeper. Sheri would cheer on the Huskers football and volleyball and tune in to watching bowling on tv. Her favorite color is purple. Sheri would take in rides for scenery with our family for fun times at Crystal Springs and go out to Rock Creek Station to read magazines and to have alone time with God and treasure the family time. She also enjoyed going to Conestoga Lake by Denton, Nebraska. Sheri’s sunnier times in this life was her family that were so important, and her first priority above all. She gave her heart with love and gave that listening ear.
Sheri is survived by her loving husband Timothy Torrey and her Mom Rosalie Oaks-her sister Laurie Oaks, half siblings Jean Oaks-Jimmy Oaks-Patty Oaks; special sisters Cindy Buchal, Maria Bennett & Adriana Horton. Sheri claimed friend Kim Criner as her sister through ups and downs; step-children Nathan & Abby and their children. She had many nephews and nieces and many friends across the miles.
She is preceded in death by her Dad Leonard Oaks and half-sister Peggy Cronin.
