Sonya Rehne Ward

Sonya Rehne Ward 71, passed away January 26, 2025.  She was born June 2, 1953, in Cullman, AL to Melba (Cole) Lindley and James Fred Lindley.  The middle of 3 girls, the family settled in Hartselle, AL where she grew up.

Sonya was a wife, mother of 3, sister, daughter, and friend. She was a great cook, quick with a joke, eager to help, and a big Alabama football fan.

Sonya was a bright light to her many friends. She was active in St Paul’s Lutheran in Gilead.  She was a beloved figure at the Wellness Center in Fairbury, where she enjoyed making everyone feel welcomed.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, and younger sister, Katrina.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, John, her daughter, Nikki, her sons Justin and Joey, her mother, Melba, and sister Marné (Larry), niece Rebecca (Philip), and great niece, sister-in-law Shelia, aunts and uncles, and cousins all of whom loved her and will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her fur babies at home who miss her dearly.

Services will be Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home with a meal to follow. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5 – 7 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her memory to the Homeless No More Cat Rescue in Fairbury, NE or the Beatrice Humane Society.
