Steven M. Cassell

August 23, 1957 — September 22, 2021

Steven Mark Cassell was born on August 23 rd 1957 in Beatrice, Nebraska to parents, Charles Vernon Cassell and Dorothy Lee (Wood) Cassell.  Steve passed away in Denver, Colorado on September 22 nd 2021.

Steve’s first home was on the Cassell farm just West of Steele City, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at the Steele City Presbyterian Church.  Steve attended Kindergarten thru 8 th grade at Steele City School. He attended 9 th thru 12 th grade at Fairbury High School and graduated in 1976. In 1977, Steve attended Southeast Community College, Milford Campus, and graduated in 1978 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment.

After college, Steve relocated to Casper, Wyoming and went to work for Parker Drilling.  Steve’s job had him travelling to many states where he would work on oil rigs doing any type of maintenance necessary to keep the rigs going. In 1998, Steve started his own business and called it SMC Rig Repair.  Steve found himself working at many locations to include, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana as well as Alaska.  When Parker Drilling sold out to Unit Drilling in 1999, Steve continued to work for Unit Drilling but as a private company going to wherever they needed him. An employee of Steve’s said that Steve’s dedication and thoroughness to his work was something to be admired. He also said that Steve had a very good attitude towards everything and never complained.

Steve kept very busy with work.  However, he found time to enjoy many of his favorite activities such as spending time with his family. In addition, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening, and taking his grandchildren to gun shows.  One of his favorite activities was resting in his hammock while watching for birds and looking for deer.  He was also part of the “Big Brother” program. When Steve came back to Nebraska, he enjoyed catching up with his family and friends.  He especially liked coming back during the Steele City Flea Market.

Steve is survived by wife Carol; daughter Melissa (Diego); grandchildren Savannah, (Kyle), Julian, Gabriella, Kalvari, and Weslyn; great-grandsons Easton & Stetson; Mother Dorothy; brother Scott (Lorna); niece Caitlin; and nephew Joshua (Bethany); aunts Peggy Young and Belva Cassell; and many cousins.  Steve was preceded in death by grandparents Glenn and Ruby Wood, Earl “Jum” and Bethel Cassell; father Vernon; and brother Craig.
