Terry Dean Arner of Fairbury, Nebraska, was born December 3, 1951, in Fairbury, to Larry & Julaine (Georgine) (Holes) Arner. Terry entered into his eternal life on Monday, May 1, 2018, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, surrounded by his wife, children and close family, at the age of 66 years.
Terry grew up on a farm near Kansas and later resided in Fairbury until he graduated from Fairbury High School in 1970.
On May 23, 1970, Terry enlisted into the Nebraska Army National Guard as an Infantry Mortarman. On May 1, 1971, he attended Officer Candidate School in Ashland, Nebraska. On June 4, 1972, he was commissioned the rank of 2 nd Lieutenant, later becoming a Captain and the Company Commander of the HHC 2/134 th Infantry of Beatrice, Nebraska. He later resigned his Officers Commission and was given the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 2000 to 2001 Terry was deployed on a Peace Keeping Mission to Kosovo at the rank of Master Sargent. He also served as a First Sargent until his Honorable Discharge in March of 2003 after 32 years of dedicated service to the Army. During his enlistment Terry was awarded numerous medals and commendations, the highest being The Meritorious Service Medal.
On May 13, 1972, he married Kim (Beu) Arner. To this union, four children were born: Travis, Trenton, Nathan and Patrick. They lived in Fairbury for a short time before moving to the farm near Reynolds. During Terry’s working years, he was involved in the family farming operation and later moved on to become a manufacturing plant supervisor. Most recently he worked in agriculture, where he did many odd jobs, including the most recent of driving truck.
Terry had a great love for the outdoors; anything from teaching his boys to hunt, to camping and boating with family. One of Terry’s greatest loves was his grandchildren. If you were to attend a sporting event of his children or grandchildren, you were sure to hear Terry cheering loudly in support of them. He would also attend concerts, plays, dance recitals and every activity near and far that his children or grandchildren were involved in.
Another passion he had was traveling with Kim. Over the years they enjoyed many road trips to several states to attend flea markets. During those trips, he was always finding someone he knew.
Terry was an active member of the Fairbury Elks Lodge during his younger years and held an Exalted Ruler rank. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, being one of the founding members. He most recently played a big part of building the playground at the church.
Terry was preceded in death by his infant son, Trenton and parents Larry & Georgine (Julaine) Arner, father-in-law Albert Beu, and mother-in-law Irene Beu.
He will be forever remembered by his wife, Kim; son Travis and wife Dawn of Axtell, Nebraska; son Nathan of Fairbury; and son Patrick and wife Amber of Fairbury.
