Theodore Ted Doyle

Theodore Dennison "Ted" Doyle was born January 12, 1914 on a ranch near Maywood, Nebraska the son of Guy and Grace Towne Doyle. Ted died on Friday, October 6, 2006 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 24 days. Ted graduated from Curtis High School and went on to receive his BS in Agriculture from the University Of Nebraska in Lincoln. He worked on the Manhatten Project for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, managed the Pla-Mor Lanes in Fairbury, taught farming practicies to local veterans, manager of the Cominco Plant, President and a board member of Southeast Community College in Fairbury. He began his illustrious sports career as a walk on for the University Of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1936. He graduated with Honors in 1938. Ted played in the all star game in 1938 against the Chicago Bears and played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, Steagles and Carpits as a tackle on both offense and defense. He played semi-pro baseball for various teams in the Pittsburgh area. He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall Of Fame in 1990. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church, Fairbury Elks and President of the Fairbury Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife Harriett, son Dennison of Olney, Maryland, daughters Patricia of Colorado Springs and Jo Ann of Omaha, brother Keith of Livingstone, New Jersey and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury.
