Thyran “Kay” Pavlicek was born on May 18, 1945, in Beatrice, NE to Edward Vorderstrasse and Dorothy (Hohensee) Vorderstrasse, the oldest of 4 children. She grew up on a farm north of Fairbury and spent her childhood on the farm going to East Bower School District 62 east of the farmstead.
She went to Fairbury High School and moved to Fairbury her Freshman year. She went to school and worked as a waitress at Elgert’s supper club. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1963.
She met and married Garen Ray Goebel on August 29, 1964, in Plymouth NE. To this marriage a baby boy, Brice Edward Goebel, was born. They divorced in 1971 and she continued to work in the restaurant industry as well as run a preschool out of her house. After the preschool she worked as a cook and waitress in numerous restaurants including the Elk’s Lodge. She eventually owned 2 separate restaurants.
In 1974 she met Wayne Loris Pavlicek and they married June 20, 1975. To this marriage twins, Heidi Kay Pavlicek (Stringer) and Brian Wayne Pavlicek, were born on August 6, 1976. The family continued to live in Fairbury and Wayne worked for the Department of Roads in Fairbury as an Equipment Operator.
Kay lost the love of her life, Wayne, to cancer on October 30, 2009. She continued to live in Fairbury until 2017 when she moved to Marion KS to be near all the kids. She went to see Wayne in Heaven on April 29, 2021 while living at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion.
She is survived by her children, son Brice Goebel and Valerie (Coordsen) of Marion, daughter Heidi Stringer of Marion, son Brian Pavlicek of Marion and 4 grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Judy and James Paben, Brenda and Dale Kugel and brother Keith Vorderstrasse and partner Cookie, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a still born child.
Services will be held Thursday, May 6th at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Fairbury, NE. Family will be greeting friends at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. She will be placed to rest next to Wayne at the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials to the United Methodist Church in Fairbury.
