Velma Sarah Louise Roseman Bartels was born May 31, 1922 to William & Sadie Eden Roseman at home near Diller, Nebraska. She was baptized July 9, 1922 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Lanham, Kansas. She was confirmed at the same church on May 31, 1936. She was raised on the farm near Diller and attended District 57, Jack Hill School near Diller.
She married Alfred Christ Bartels on May 28, 1947 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, Kansas. They had 2 daughters, Sharon and Sandra. They lived on a farm near Bremen, Kansas. She was a homemaker. After her husband’s death in 1971, she continued to live on the farm until October 1998 when she moved to Fairbury Gardens in Fairbury, Nebraska due to poor health.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Bremen, Kansas. Before her move to Fairbury she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Dorcas Society. She also taught Sunday School for several years. She was a member of the Aid Association for Lutherans and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. She liked to quilt, embroidery, crochet, and do plastic canvas crafts.
Survivors are her daughter Sandra Busing and her husband Joe of Fairbury, grandchildren Jenifer Busing of York and Justin Busing and his wife Bobbie of Council Bluffs, IA, and great-grandson Aaron Busing also of Council Bluffs, IA.
Preceding her in death were her husband Alfred, daughter Sharon, brother Marvin Roseman, and her parents.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of rural Bremen, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
