Verneal D. Barber

Verneal D. Barber 88, formerly of Diller, passed away April 23, 2014 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.  She was born January 19, 1926 to Oscar and Ida (Engelman) Schnuelle on the family farm in rural Harbine, Nebraska.  She went to Diller High School.

On August 8, 1946 she married Charlie Barber in the parsonage of the Hope Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Harbine, Nebraska. She was a devoted farm wife and worked side by side with Charlie. A wonderful cook, she fed many hired hands through the years.  She had a love for family and friends and shared her love for crocheting with them all.  She loved attending grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.  She enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and with her flowers.

She was a long time member of the Merry Modern Extension Club, and a member of the U.C.C. Church in Harbine. She was currently a member of St. Paul’s Church in Diller, Ne.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Barber of Fairbury, NE., son: Charles Barber & Wife Ardith of Diller, NE., grandchildren: Marcy Barber of Lincoln, NE., Angie Clifford & Husband Chris of Diller, NE., Jeff Barber & his significant other, Sandi of Lincoln, Great Grandchildren:  Samantha & Cale Clifford of Diller, sisters: Elaine Patras & Husband John of Elkhorn, NE., Joyce Neumann of DeWitt, NE., Janet Lawrence & Husband Conrad of Henderson, NV., brother: Richard Schnuelle & wife Jean of Jansen, NE., sisters-in-law: Arlene Wolter of Columbus, Loretta Barber of Beatrice, Carol Barber of CA., many nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant Brother, sister Arlene Nippert & Husband Willard, and brother-in-law Herman  Neumann.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday April 25, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller, NE., with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Visitation will be Thur. April 24 ^th from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Fairbury & the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial at Prairie Home Cemetery – Diller, NE. Memorials to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
