Vernon Dean Thomsen was born on July 10, 1939 on the family farm south of Odell, Nebraska, the son of Meenke Thomsen and his wife Edna Adam Thomsen. Vernon received his gift of eternal life on March 6 at his home in Lanham, Kansas. Vernon was 75 years, 7 months, and 26 days old.
Vernon was Baptized into the Christian faith on July 23, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran by the Rev. Dr. William Mahler. His sponsors were Ernest Adam and Alvin Adam. He confessed that Baptismal faith on the day of his Confirmation, March 29, 1953 at Trinity. The Pastor was Rev. Theo. Kauffeld.
Vernon graduated from Trinity Lutheran School and from Hanover High School. He served his Lord as a life-long member of Trinity; as a member of The Walter League; as a member of The Men’s Club; as a member of the Church Supper Committee; and as Secretary of the congregation.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army serving during peace time. He was a member of the Hanover and Odell American Legion.
Vernon worked as a machinist at Dempster Manufacturing in Beatrice, Nebraska. His hobbies included playing Bingo at the American Legion, playing cards whenever he had the chance, gardening and flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Meenke and Edna; by his brother: Merlin Thomsen; by a great nephew: Cayden Zabokrtsky; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his brother: Eldon Thomsen and his wife Eunice of Hollenberg, Kansas; by his aunt: Velma Adam of Odell, Nebraska; by his nieces: Joy Thomsen of Beatrice, Nebraska; Amy Reichenberger and husband Marty of Independence, Kansas; and Dawn Zabokrtsky and husband Scott of Hanover. He is survived by his nephew: Troy Thomsen of Hollenberg, Kansas. He is also survived by his great nieces, great nephews, other family members and his many friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 10, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church-Hanover, KS., with Pastor Rodney Fritz officiating. Viewing will be on Monday March 9, 2015 from 2:30 to 8:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church-Hanover, KS., with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery-Hanover, KS. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell is in charge of arrangements.
