Veronica Peperkorn

Veronica Peperkorn, 104, Odell passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the home of her daughter Barbara and husband Don Zarybnicky.

She was born January 12, 1907, to Albert and Mary (Rauner) Hergott at Gilead, Nebraska. She attended Gilead Grade School District #89 until the 10th grade and then graduated from Fairbury High School in 1924. On January 20, 1933 she married Fred Peperkorn and spent most of their married life in Gilead. In 1978, they moved to Odell. Fred died in 1980 and Veronica’s brother, John, lived with her. In 1993 they moved to Beatrice and after John died, Veronica moved to Odell in 2006 to live with her daughter, Barbara and Don Zarybnicky.

Veronica worked at the Gilead Grocery Store, Gilead Post Office, Weiner’s Tavern and Pioneer’s Inn, and was a cook at the Gilead Grade School for 15 years.

Veronica is survived by her daughter Betty and husband Charles Witulski, Beatrice, and Barbara and husband Don Zarybnicky of Odell. Special niece and nephew, Eleanor Preston, Canyon Lake, TX and Greg Hergott, Fairbury. 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, sisters, Rose Schainost and Agnes Hickey and brothers Clem, Charles, Arthur, Clarence and John Hergott.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Odell. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7 at the Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home, Odell. Interment at the Fairbury Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
