Vic Grummert passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 19, 2023. He was born on March 20, 1935, to E.W. and Elisabeth Grummert in Beatrice, NE. He was the middle son of three brothers and one sister.
He was baptized by his grandfather, Reverend A. Heckel, and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church of Plymouth, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm, where he enjoyed farming with his dad and brothers. Vic attended grade school at District 2 school, three and a half miles north of Jansen. He started out riding a horse and buggy but soon found his Model A truck worked much better. He attended high school in Fairbury.
He was united in marriage to Carol Hiner on April 20th, 1958, at the Endicott Methodist Church. To this union, two children were born, Jeff and Lisa.
Vic's great work ethic started back on the farm, where he did farming, completed chores, and fed cattle for extra money. He then worked doing custom harvesting. Next, he worked at Trindle Sinclair filling station, wearing a complete hat and tie while pumping gas. Then Vic started his career working heavy equipment at Boyden Construction. Lastly, he started running earth scrapers at Jefferson County Department of Roads and worked his way up to shop foreman. Over the years, his wrecker and storage business also kept him very busy, fixing cars, pick-ups, and making trailers. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids riding 4-wheelers, side-by-side, golf carts, and go-carts.
Many of Vic's early hobbies were tinkering with tractors, trucks, & cars. He loved working on the #73 race car that he built with his many friends. Vic loved buying and selling things, spending time in his shop doing mechanical work, and helping many of his friends. His Kubota tractor and mower gave him great joy. He enjoyed boating & camping with his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Father and Mother-in-law Floyd and Thelma Hiner; Brother-in-law Marvin Wurm; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He is survived by his wife Carol; son Jeff (Lori) Grummert; daughter Lisa (Jeff) Arend; and both of Deshler.
