Viola L. Henry

Viola Lucile (Pfingsten) Henry, daughter of Henry and Marie (Pieper) Pfingsten, was born September 3, 1929, in Beatrice. She passed from this life on Saturday, August 5, at her home, at the age of 87.

Viola grew up on the family farm near Clatonia, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural DeWitt, Nebraska.

Viola married Wesley Henry on September 17, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran. They farmed east of Daykin for 34 years before retiring to their home in Daykin. They were blessed with four children during their 63-year marriage. Viola was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

An avid quilter, flower gardener, and baker, Viola blessed her family, friends, and the church altar with her many talents.

She faithfully attended and served in many capacities at St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the altar committee, sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief, teaching Sunday school, and participating in Women’s circle. Viola was also an active member of the Daykin and Jefferson County American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed meeting with friends in the Daykin Progressive Extension Club.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, son-in-law Roger Clements, parents, sisters Taleta Pfingsten and Elda Saathoff, and in-laws William and Lulu Henry, Walter and Alta Henry, and Wayne and Marilyn Henry. She is survived by her children Vivian (Dennis) Runnels, Wanda Clements, Allen (ReNee) Henry, Douglas (Vikki) Henry, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandsons, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, August 10, at St. John Lutheran Church in Daykin. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8. Burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Daykin and memorials will go to the church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, Fairbury, is in charge of arrangements.
