Virginia J Mccord

Virginia Jeanette McCord passed away peacefully at home on Aug 4, 2015 at the age of 88.

Virginia was born on January 21, 1927 to William and Emma Stauss Glenn, near Gladstone, NE. She was the youngest of 5 children.

She attended elementary school at District 50, Gladstone, Nebraska and Fairbury High School in Fairbury, NE. After graduation, she married Clyde Robert Robinson. To this union, one son, Jack Lyn Robinson, was born. After several years, the marriage ended in divorce.

Virginia worked at the phone company as an operator and began dating Thomas “Pete” McCord. They were married in February 1954. To this union, a son Michael Dean was born on January 19, 1956 and a daughter, Patricia Lee was born on January 19, 1959.

Virginia spent many enjoyable years on the McCord ranch with her husband Pete raising cattle, horses and purebred dogs. They enjoyed rodeos, going to dances and participating in Blue Valley Wrangler saddle club. When Mike and Patti were old enough, they participated in 4-H and Little Britches rodeos which Virginia and Pete enjoyed attending. Virginia was active in the Pony Express, and was one of the first women to ride in the annual Pony Express run. She also participated in the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay carrying the Olympic Flame on horseback as it passed through Nebraska.

Virginia liked spending time with family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Jack and Barb Robinson, and daughter Patti McCord, 8 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her 4 brothers, son Mike, great grandson Coby Lane Wolken, and husband Pete

Celebration of Life services will be August 7, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury at 2:30 pm. An informal gathering for friends and family will be held at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home on August 6, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
