Vonia (Dutch) L. Scheer

Vonia (Dutch) Lorraine Scheer, 90 of Fairbury passed away January 21, 2020 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.  She was born March 12, 1929 to Donald and Margaret Welsh in Washington County, Kansas.  Dutch graduated from Fairbury High School in 1947.  She met Francis Leo Scheer in Reno #2, Kansas and they were married on November 22, 1947.  They farmed west of Fairbury for twelve years, and then moved to a farm west of Diller where they farmed another twelve years. In 1973 they moved to Fairbury, Nebraska where Francis worked for the county and Dutch worked in the housekeeping department for Fairbury High School for 17 years and retired in August 1990. Dutch and Francis had a love for travel.  Dutch enjoyed sewing, baking and taking care of family.  She had many wonderful qualities; her greatest was her love for her family.  Dutch will always be remembered for her kindness and caring for all people. She is preceded in death by her husband Francis Scheer and several family members.  She is survived by children Michael & Kathy Scheer, Jerry Scheer, Teresa & Loren Baird, 9 grandchildren and their spouses and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday, January 31, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  A Rosary will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 at the Funeral Home with the family greeting friends following the Rosary.  Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
