Dr. William P Yoachim, Jr.

January 22, 1921 — April 15, 2018

Dr. William Peter Yoachim, Jr. passed away April 15, 2018 at Gardenside LTC in Fairbury. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on January 22, 1921 to William and Marye Dill Yoachim.  Bill was born in Canada of American parents thus making him a dual citizen.

Bill and his siblings attended a rural two room school until 9 th grade and then moved into Edmonton to attend Eastwood High school.  His mother died in 1935 and in 1937 Bill was invited to Fairbury, Nebraska to live with his Aunt (Nellie Dill Orth) and Uncle (George Orth) and because of his dual citizenship he was able to come to the US and finish his schooling at Fairbury High School.  After graduation and with the encouragement of his brother Maurice, he applied and was accepted to the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1942.  After graduation from medical school in 1945 and an internship at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, he was inducted into the Army Medical Corp as a First Lieutenant.  He was united in marriage to Marion O. Gibson on May 19, 1946 and was immediately sent to Yokahama, Japan where he was stationed at the 155 th Army Hospital.  After his tour of duty he returned to Fairbury, NE and joined the Lynch Clinic where he practiced until July of 1980.

Family and friends enjoyed sing a-longs with Bill and his guitar either in their backyard, at their cabin on Tuttle Creek Lake or Maui.  He was an active member of the Fairbury Kiwanis Club for 30 years where he had the lead in several musicals.  Bill was an avid all weather golfer and seldom had to open his wallet.  He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and the First Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marion, his children Linda Biles (Bill) of Tie Siding, Wyoming, Bob Yoachim (Sue) of Ark City, Kansas and Susan Hungerford (Mark) of Manhattan, Kansas, 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Saturday April 21 st at 11:00 am at the Christian Church in Fairbury with Darlene Novotny officiating.  Memorials to the Fairbury Cemetery or Bonham Theater Project. A celebration will be held at the Fairbury Country Club following the services. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury are in charge of arrangements.
