Zola M. Nickel

Zola May (Nickles) Nickel went home to heaven on Saturday, January 23, 2021.  She was born  September 12, 1926 to Manning & Mabel (Dorman) Nickles of Swanton, NE.

She graduated from Swanton High School and worked until she married her husband Walden Carl Nickel on November 30, 1944.  To this union five children were born.  They enjoyed family gatherings, singing, camping & fishing and traveling together.  They made their home near and in Western, then Seward, Ulysses and then back to Western where they resided until their death.

Preceded by husband of almost 68 years, Walden C. Nickel passed in 2012, parents Manning & Mabel Nickles, sister Alene Nickel, brothers Chester, Calvin and little Clark Duane and son Robert Lee Nickel.

She is survived by her children Janice Anderson of DeWitt, NE, Katherine & Brad Goolsby of Plymouth, NE, Dwight & Pam Nickel of Western & Duane & Loretta Nickel of Swanton, Grandchildren Larry Jr., Ron, Jana, John, Justin, Joelle, Lee, Renae, Scott, Kimberly, Michael, Krystal and Alayna, 26 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Services will be Friday January 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical United Church of Christ – Western, NE.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4 – 7 at the church in Western. Masks are required at the church.  Memorials will go to Western Fire & Rescue & Struckman-Baatz Library. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
